When the Sea Goes Quiet is a large mixed media artwork inspired by coral reef formations and the silent, intricate world beneath the ocean’s surface. The piece is entirely hand-built using modelling clay, with each individual form shaped and placed before the composition slowly emerged through an intuitive, layered process.
A restrained monochrome palette was chosen to shift the focus toward texture, form, and shadow. Subtle acrylic paints and inks were used to enhance depth, while a soft golden shimmer catches the light gently, changing as the viewer moves around the piece. The work is sealed with varnish, protecting the surface while allowing the tactile quality and fine detail to remain visible.
