Step by step guidance on how to order your pet portrait

1. Initial Consultation and Reference Photos

To begin your custom pet portrait journey, simply reach out through my website’s contact form, email, or phone. I’m here to answer any questions and discuss your vision for the portrait—whether you’re looking for a classic pose, a lively expression, or something that captures your pet’s unique personality. If you’re unsure about details, I can offer guidance based on my experience to help create a portrait you’ll love.

Let's discuss your vision: Think about what makes your pet unique: Do they have a playful spark in their eyes, a dignified pose, or a look that brings out their gentle side? Your insights help me bring those special traits to life in the portrait.

Reference Photos: The Key to an Accurate Portrait

Start the Process: Reaching Out

  • High-quality, well-lit photos are essential for creating a portrait that truly resembles your pet. Ideally, photos should be taken in natural light, such as near a window or outdoors, without harsh shadows or artificial lighting.

  • Choose photos that show your pet in their natural posture or with an expression that you’d love to see captured in the artwork. Close-ups of the face, especially the eyes, are particularly helpful for capturing fine details.

  • For pets who aren’t camera-friendly, try taking photos while they’re relaxed or distracted with a toy. If needed, feel free to send multiple photos so I can see different angles and details—I’ll work with you to select the best ones for the portrait.

  • Once you’ve chosen your favorite photos, send them my way via email or through a file-sharing service if the file sizes are large. I’ll review them and confirm which ones will work best for the portrait before we move to the next step.

2. Choosing Details (Size, Background and Style)

Selecting the Perfect Size for Your Space

When choosing the size of your portrait, consider where you plan to display it and the level of detail you’d like. I offer a range of sizes to suit different spaces and preferences—from smaller, intimate portraits that make perfect gifts, to larger statement pieces that capture every fine detail of your pet.

  • Small (A5): Great for small spaces or as thoughtful gifts.

  • Medium (A4): Most popular choice, with just the right balance of detail and presence.

  • Large (A3): Ideal for a striking display, bringing your pet’s personality to life in vivid detail.

Background Options: Creating the Right Mood

The background of your pet’s portrait can make a big difference in the overall feel of the artwork. A simple, neutral background keeps all attention on your pet, while a colored or scenic background can add a touch of personality to match your pet’s unique spirit. Consider your pet’s coloring and coat when choosing a background. I’m happy to suggest background colors that highlight their unique features if you’re unsure! We can also work together to create a soft gradient or a subtle setting that best complements the portrait.

Style and Personalization

My style focuses on realism with a soft, hand-crafted touch. The aim is to capture your pet’s essence as naturally as possible. Each portrait is a blend of true-to-life details and the warmth of handmade art—so while it may not be hyper-realistic, it will capture the spirit and charm of your pet beautifully."

This is also the time to share any personal requests—whether it’s a favorite pose, expression, or unique marking. Your input is invaluable to capturing the essence of your pet in a way that feels true to them and meaningful to you.

3. Securing the Commission with a Deposit

Non-Refundable Deposit to Begin the Process

To officially begin your custom pet portrait, a non-refundable deposit of €50 is required. This deposit secures your place in my schedule and allows me to start planning and preparing for your portrait. The deposit covers initial planning time, material preparation, and serves as a commitment to move forward with your portrait, ensuring I can dedicate the time and focus needed to create a high-quality piece.

What Happens After the Deposit

Once the deposit is received, I will reach out to confirm all the details we discussed—size, background, and any unique touches you’ve requested. This is a great opportunity to go over any last-minute thoughts or adjustments before I begin creating the portrait. Once your deposit is received, your portrait is officially underway! I'll keep you informed throughout the process, and you’ll know that your artwork is being crafted with care, attention to detail, and a genuine passion for capturing your pet’s spirit."

Deposit Payment Options

To make the payment process easy, I offer multiple options for paying the deposit. You can make the deposit securely by Bank Transfer, Revolut, or a secure custom payment link via the website HERE. Just choose the method that’s most convenient for you!

4. Creating the Portrait

Once all the details are finalized and the deposit has been received, I’ll begin creating your pet’s portrait. Each piece is carefully crafted using high-quality, artist-grade soft pastels and pastel pencils, ensuring a beautifully detailed and durable artwork. I focus on capturing your pet’s unique essence—their expressive eyes, the texture of their fur, and their distinct personality. This stage of the process is where their character truly comes to life on paper."

The Creation Process: Bringing Your Pet to Life

Progress Updates

While many clients love the surprise of seeing the finished portrait, I also offer optional progress updates if you’d like a glimpse into the creative process. These updates can include snapshots of the artwork in various stages, allowing you to share in the excitement of seeing your pet come to life.

Attention to Detail

Every detail is given special care, from the subtle highlights in your pet’s eyes to the delicate blending of colors in their fur. My aim is to create a portrait that’s not only realistic but also infused with the warmth and love you feel for your pet. Once the portrait is complete, I’ll reach out to share a photo of the finished piece for your approval. This ensures that you’re delighted with the result before moving on to the final steps of payment and delivery.

Estimated Timeframe

The time required to complete your portrait depends on its size and complexity, but most commissions take approximately 2–4 weeks. If you’re working with a specific deadline (such as a birthday or special occasion), please let me know as soon as possible, and I’ll do my best to accommodate.

5. Final Approvement and Payment

Previewing Your Finished Portrait

Once your portrait is complete, I’ll send you a high-quality image of the finished artwork for your approval. This is your chance to ensure every detail meets your expectations and reflects your vision. If there are any small adjustments you’d like to see, let me know—I want you to be completely happy with your portrait before it’s delivered.

Final Payment Options

After you’ve approved the final artwork, the remaining balance is due. I offer flexible payment options, including Bank Transfer, Revolut, or a secure custom payment link through this website. Choose the method that works best for you and you can let me know at this point.

Packing and Preparing for Delivery

"Once payment is complete, your portrait will be carefully packed to ensure it arrives in perfect condition. Each artwork comes mounted on a foam core backboard with a protective mat, ready to take to your framer. For added protection, the packaging includes an acid-free barrier to preserve the quality of the artwork during transit.

Framing Recommendations

Soft pastel portraits require proper framing with glass to protect the delicate surface. If you’re ordering from within ROI, I can arrange framing with a trusted local supplier for an additional cost. For international orders, I recommend taking the portrait directly to your preferred framer to match your style and décor.

Delivery and Timeline

Depending on your location, delivery times will vary. I’ll provide an estimated delivery date once the artwork is shipped. For customers opting for framing, please allow additional time for the framing process.

Thank you for considering a custom pet portrait. It’s a joy and an honor to capture the spirit of your beloved pets. I look forward to working with you!
