Things to Consider Before Ordering Your Custom Pet Portrait

Creating a custom pet portrait is a beautiful and lasting way to capture the unique personality of your beloved pet. To ensure the artwork is everything you envision, here are a few key factors to consider before placing your order. I’m here to guide you through each step to make the process enjoyable and tailored to your needs.
Choose the right size of the artwork:
-
Think about where you'll display the portrait: The size should fit the space well, whether you plan to feature it as a focal point or as part of a gallery wall. Selecting the right size is essential to showcase your pet’s personality and fit the intended space beautifully. I offer 3 different sizes for pastel pet portraits.
-
Level of detail: Larger portraits allow for more intricate details, while smaller sizes are great for simpler, focused compositions. Consider the kind of impact you want the portrait to have.

Small Portraits - A5 (14.8 x 21.0 cm, 5.8 x 8.3 inches) - Perfect for cozy spaces or as a heartfelt gift, small portraits offer a charming, intimate way to honor your pet. Ideal for shelves, desks, or small walls, they add a personal touch without overwhelming the space.

Medium Portraits - A4 (21 x 29.7cm, 8.3 x 11.7 inches) - The most popular choice, A4 portraits strike a great balance between size and detail, allowing your pet’s unique features to stand out without taking up too much room. Perfect for placing in living rooms, bedrooms, or gallery walls, where they can be enjoyed up close.

Large Portraits - A3 (29.7 x 42 , 11.7 x 16.5 inches) - For a bold, impactful display, large portraits bring your pet’s personality to life in vivid detail. These are ideal for statement pieces in spacious areas like entryways or living rooms, where they create a lasting impression and showcase every detail.
Number of Pets in the Portrait
Choosing the number of pets in your portrait allows for flexibility and creativity, whether you're showcasing a single beloved pet or celebrating a group. Here’s what to consider:
-
Single vs. Multiple Pets: Including more than one pet in a portrait is entirely possible! Keep in mind that to capture each pet’s unique personality and details, a larger size is recommended.
-
Pose and Interaction: Consider whether you’d like each pet individually posed or interacting together. Posing them separately gives a classic feel, while interacting poses add a lively, connected narrative.
-
Combining Pets from Separate Photos: If your pets aren’t always in the same photo, no problem! I can seamlessly combine pets from different images into a single portrait, creating a harmonious scene. Please note, however, that this option is available only for medium and large-sized portraits to ensure detail and composition quality.

Selecting a Background
The background you choose can set the mood for your portrait, enhancing the overall look and bringing out your pet’s unique personality. Here are some tips to help you decide:
-
Background Style: A simple, neutral background keeps the focus entirely on your pet, creating a timeless and classic look. For something more dynamic, a colored or scenic background can add character and visual interest, reflecting your pet's personality or even a favorite place.
-
Color Coordination: Consider colors that highlight or complement your pet’s features. For example, warm tones can enhance a golden or tan coat, while cool tones contrast beautifully with darker fur. If you’re unsure, I’m here to suggest colors that will best bring out your pet’s unique coloring.
-
Scenic or Custom Backgrounds: If you have a specific background in mind—a garden, favorite park, or even a cozy room setting—let’s discuss options! Adding a scenic background can tell more of your pet’s story and create a unique narrative for the portrait. Please note this option is not available on small size portraits.
Matting and Mounting Options
Adding a mat and mount to your pet portrait gives it a refined, gallery-style finish and can enhance the artwork’s presence. Here’s what you need to know:
-
Included Options: Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about matting and mounting or if you’d like guidance on what might best suit your vision for the artwork!
Your finished artwork will come with a single white mat at the front and mounted securely on a foam core backboard, ready to be taken directly to your framer. Soft pastel artwork benefits from a double mat setup—leaving a small space between the artwork and the glass. This approach protects the pastel surface while enhancing its visual depth.
This setup allows you the freedom to choose a frame that suits your personal style and home decor. The matting and mounting are included in the price, making it easy for you to frame and display your custom portrait beautifully.

Framing Options - please note, I do not frame my pet portraits, however this can be arranged at special request.
Framing can enhance your pet portrait, giving it a ready-to-display, finished look. Here’s what to consider based on your location:
-
For Orders Within ROI: If you’re ordering from within the Republic of Ireland, I can arrange framing through a trusted local supplier at an additional cost. Please note that framing may extend the delivery time, so let me know if you have any time-sensitive requests, and I’ll do my best to accommodate.
-
For International Orders: Due to shipping complexities, I do not offer framing for international orders. However, each portrait is carefully prepared with a mat and mount, making it easy to frame locally. This approach also allows you to choose a frame that best suits your personal style and decor.
-
Framing for Protection: Soft pastel is a delicate medium, and framing with glass is essential to protect your artwork from smudging or damage over time. The glass creates a barrier, preserving the colors and details of your portrait while keeping the soft pastel surface safe. I highly recommend framing the artwork as soon as possible to ensure it stays in pristine condition for years to come.
If you’d like any recommendations on framing styles or tips for local framing, I’m happy to help. Framing is a personal touch that can truly bring the artwork to life!
Note: A €50 deposit is required to begin each portrait, with the remaining balance due upon completion. For convenience, I offer several payment options for the balance: you can pay via bank transfer, Revolut, or a secure custom payment link through this website.
If you have specific ideas or need help choosing the best options, please feel free to reach out.
